In 1000shapes we innovate to improve the life of the people. Our main motivation to come every day to the office is the fact that our technology and progress is made by people and for the people. We believe in the technology and its progress as the most effective medium to improve the quality of life of the human beings.
Innovation is in our DNA
1000shapes was founded in 2010 as a spin-off of Matheon and Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB). ZIB is a non-university research institute for applied mathematics and computer science addressing complex problems in science, engineering, environment, and society. The aim of the strategic partnership between 1000shapes and ZIB is to transform research results from ZIB into industry-strength services.

1000shapes quality management system aims to document the company’s best practices to satisfy the requirements and expectations of our customers and to improve the overall performance and efficiency of the company.
It addresses corporate quality policies, including roles, authorities and responsibilities. It contains operating procedures, that describe actual processes, guidelines and controls that apply to central activities of the company. 1000shapes monitors, measures and analyzes the relevant processes through internal audit procedures, and takes action to achieve planned results and improvements. All of our employees are challenged on an ongoing basis to contribute to this process.
Recognition of our work
1000shapes recent efforts were acknowledged with the following rewards:
- The Karl-Heinz Höhne Award for Medical Visualization (2004, 2008 and 2010) distinguished repeatedly our work on therapy planning.
- The Grand Challenges in Biomedical Image Analysis recognized our work in segmentation methodology in the challenges Segmentation of the Liver (2007), mandible from cone-beam CT (2009) and Segmentation of Knee Images (2010).
- The “efficient projection and deformation of volumetric shape and intensity models for accurate simulation of X-ray images” was awarded in 2012 by the VCBM society.
- Matheon Ausgründungspreis (2012) for the commercialization of the software Amira.
- The Shape challenge (2015) awarded 1000shapes for the best partial shape reconstruction of resected livers.
Dr. Hans Lamecker
Dr. rer. nat. Hans Lamecker is co-founder and Managing Director of 1000shapes. He holds a PhD degree in mathematics and computer science from the Free University in Berlin. He is author and co-author of many scientific papers in the fields of image and geometry processing. You can find more information about his research and experience here.
Dr. Stefan Zachow
Dr. ing. Stefan Zachow is co-founder and Managing Director of 1000shapes. He holds a PhD degree in computer science from the Technical University in Berlin. He is heading two research groups on therapy planning and computational medicine at the Zuse Institute Berlin (ZIB). You can find more information about his research and experience here.
